FAQs

General Questions:

What is Letterkind?

Letterkind is a 12-month story experience that brings adventurous and heart-warming stories to life through narrative writing and story-supportive inserts.

The letters are mailed directly to you or to an address and recipient of your choosing. The story grows deeper letter by letter. Two letters are mailed each month, for a total of 24 letters in a series collection.

Each humble letter brims with story and stuff. Colorful. Hand-crafted. Thoughtfully written by a passionate storyteller and personally assembled with care.

These are not letters to read, and then, to toss aside. Because each letter builds on the last, readers will want to keep them nearby, revisit favorite moments, and enjoy the full story as it unfolds.

Our series are wholesome without being stiff, faith-aware without being heavy-handed, and full of life, humor, and heart. The letters are meant to delight the reader, invite reflection, and strengthen the kinds of virtues that matter most.

We aim for smiles!

Are the stories suited for young readers?

The story series are written with age in mind.

Each LETTERKIND series is especially suited for readers 9 to 14 yrs, give or take. We like to say our stories appeal to readers up to 100 years old, but that's not really fair. 100+ year-youngers would probably share the grins too. :)

Our conversations, descriptions, and scenes are always "G" rated so you can enjoy reading or sending with full confidence.

What are the "family friendly values" found in the Letterkind series?

We know how important this matter is. And we want families to purchase our series with confidence. Every letter is written from a Biblical worldview where belief in a triune God is foundational.

For example, in our signature series, SYCAMORA, the local pastor and his wife are colorful and warm characters who add to the unfolding drama. Some characters pray, attend Christian church services, and nod to creation as a work of God. Daily living as a tight-knit community that squabbles and puzzles over heart-felt matters implies this kind of faith.

In every story Letterkind issues, family and friendships will be cherished, though struggles are part of what makes a great story. Themes of belonging, bravery, courage, empathy, forgiveness, honesty, humor, kindness, love, and loyalty weave through the pages. And sometimes, knot up.

If you've enjoyed classics like Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, All Creatures Great and Small, Huckleberry Finn, and Where the Red Fern Grows, then chances are, you'll love our story series.

What's not in your stories?

So glad you asked! :)

You'll not find any graphic violence, nor political agendas, nor celebration of evil, nor flat, preachy storytelling.

You'll also not find magic, science fiction, mystical fantasy, nor hobbits. Not that Tolkien and Lewis didn't gift us all with their grand imaginations. It's just that we love focusing on real life possibilities.

Nature, human relationships, and personal growth offer such rich depths. This is our lane here at Letterkind. Tacos are also in our lane, but sadly, they won't be in our letters. We felt it best to let you know upfront.

Many of our themes have been inspired by real life events, people, nature, and food, but all of our stories are non-edible, "G" rated fiction.

Are the letters educational?

Each story is intentionally set alongside a national park, where the landscape becomes part of the experience. Readers will notice birds, blossoms, weather, changing seasons, creatures in the bush, and the ordinary grandeur of the natural world woven into the story itself.

Honestly, we prefer not to use the word "educational." That makes things suddenly stuffy (former classroom teacher here wearing a half-grin). But, if recipients begin paying closer attention to the beauty around them, we're happy to risk it. :)

What if we don't like happy mail?

Skipping to the mailbox 24 times and returning with a grin isn't for everybody.

Especially if you're finding only rich characters, ridiculous humor, mysterious discoveries, plot twists, natural beauty, and your name on a handsome letter that's not from Uncle Sam.

And, add to that, only themed stickers, maps, recipes, and such when you're more accustomed to bills and gutter-installation flyers.

It's still been nice having you drop by.

And, if you ever change your mind, we'll be here for you! :)
