Hi! I’m Dea, the creator behind Letterkind. Thank you for visiting with me online today. It’s a pleasure to share a little bit about the journey to this joyous, creative work.

After nearly twenty years teaching middle and high school students, I'm convinced. Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to reach the heart and to leave a lasting impact.

I wanted to merge two happinesses... the nostalgic (and screen-free) experience of receiving personal mail and my deep love for sharing laughs, tears, and warmth through writing and storytelling. Letterkind emerged, and I’ve been grinning about the endeavor ever since.

I live in beautiful East Tennessee, near the Great Smoky Mountains with my saucy Cavie, Rosa. Have I mentioned my four grandsweethearts? I'm crazy about them. And crazy about my adult children and their spouses, who always hold my heart. Life has afforded me opportunities to live in several states as well as Western Europe, but it’s a sweet pleasure to be back “home” near beloveds. And near mountains that have always felt like a trusted friend.

I know I’m not alone in my deep appreciation for natural wonders that change with the seasons. Spending free time enjoying mountain streams, walking old paths, catching sunsets as crickets and frogs harmonize gifts me with perspectives I dare not lose. Each Letterkind series is set alongside one of our national parks in hopes that our shared affections for this kind of beauty might add to the enjoyment of the unfolding experience. 

At its heart, Letterkind exists to offer thoughtful and meaningful story experiences to help readers feel connected to the deeper things that matter most. Courage. Empathy. Forgiveness. Humor. Integrity. Love. Kindness. And, certainly, connection to each other and to our loving Heavenly Father.

I hope you enjoy the story, as it unfolds over our year together, as much as I’ve enjoyed writing, designing, printing, assembling, addressing, posting, and sending each letter on it's merry way to dear you, your family, your friend... :)
